"My team and I undertake the Tunnel Inspections, including Water Ring Mains.  I can confirm that the coating of the steel sections at the bottom of the shafts have performed very well within the tunnel over the past 25-30 years.  Although we do not undertake specific testing or reporting of the coating itself I can confirm by visual inspection that the coating has performed very well without exception.

 

We rarely have had to do any repairs on the steel sections with the only repairs carried out to date being those areas damaged  by contractors working within the tunnel. 

 

The coating has proved to be very robust and contractors have to make a real effort to damage the coating integrity"
